Business Analyst (Posted December, 12 2017)

Do you have a passion for working on web applications that are used for the greater good? Do you consider yourself a data nerd and care equally about the purpose of the data being collected as well as the application itself? Do you love finding problems with software and then creating solutions for fixing them?

Professional Data Analysts, Inc. (PDA) is an independent evaluation consulting company with 25 employees that works primarily with departments of health in states across the country to evaluate public health programs. The systems we build are used to collect data from various public health programs, report on their efficacy, and manage various facets of the programs. These programs are used to evaluate public health programs across the country and are used by thousands of individuals. This position will be responsible for gathering, understanding, and documenting business requirements and translating those requirements into clear and concise technical specifications to be built and tested. This role will require strong business and systems analysis, relationship building, and time management skills. The candidate will also act as a consultant to inform project direction and help meet business goals. We have a laidback and casual atmosphere and are looking for a passionate person who loves data, solving problems, and making a difference.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to conduct an analysis of business needs, including scheduling meetings, planning agendas, interviewing users and stakeholders, making verbal and written presentations
  • Work collaboratively within the information technology team to create technical solutions
  • Generate, maintain, and organize internal documentation of business requirements and technical specifications
  • Perform quality checks on developed software to ensure conformity with business requirements and technical specifications
  • Validate data and reports using SQL and other tools

Qualifications

  • Prior experience writing system specifications
  • Prior experience performing quality checks on developed software
  • Ability to work as part of a team or to be self-directed as required
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to articulate ideas clearly and concisely in a variety of settings, adjusting the message to match the audience
